Live the Chaotic Good

Join in Acts of Goodness
Treating others well isn’t just a nice idea. It’s central to who we are.
Whether it’s Random Acts of Kindness, Planned Acts of Service, Spontaneous Acts of Gratitude, Public Gatherings, or Personal Interactions – we strive to bring joy and freedom, integrity and depth.
Experience Being Together
Our society has eliminated a lot of togetherness. Technology, for all its benefits, sometimes keeps us in font of screens instead of together with others. We don’t join organizations, so we don’t meet regularly with others. Families are separated by distance, by differing values, or both. A decline of “third spaces” decreases our interaction with each other. Chaotic Good isn’t just about making the world better and having fun doing it. It’s about doing it together!

My experience with Chaotic Good is great. Sharing free food is delicious, serving others is excellent, and the people are odd. Highly recommend getting involved!

Answers to Some Questions
Why the name Chaotic Good?
Good comes from the desire to live a good life and do good things. Chaotic comes from a desire to act freely – without the endless meetings and paperwork that often accompany doing things as part of a group. It also means encouraging risk-taking, working together with diverse people, and not worrying about everything going smoothly.
For those who are familiar with its meaning in fantasy role-playing games, our meaning is not exactly the same – although there is definitely some serious overlap!
Where are you based?
Physically we’re based out of 2223 FISH, an old church building in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia used by a wide variety of community groups, and we have a special love for the people of the Philadelphia River Wards.
While we focus on those closest to us, we seek to spread the Chaotic Good to all!
Is this a religious thing?
If you mean related to God in general, and Jesus in specific, yes. However, if you mean empty ritual, hypocrisy, hatred, being a tool of oppression, science denial, or chasing political power – we want to be anything but!
That said, we love working together with churches and other organizations that are willing to help. And we are especially thankful for Summerfield whose support makes this all possible.
